So far, Dust2, Train, Inferno and Nuke have all been updated, with wholesale changes made to Overpass over time, and Vertigo has been newly added.
Mirage so far has been largely left untouched since it was first added to the map pool on July 1, Dust2, the most famous and iconic map in the CS franchise, was originally created by David Johnson who also created Cobblestone.
Jesse Cliffe advised David to rethink this before the map was released, with the name eventually changed to Dust2.
The map was recently revamped by Valve, who stated their aim was not only to improve the map visually but also to improve the gameplay.
Despite making this bold claim, the map layout was primarily left the same, with minor changes and lighting improvements in dark areas added.
The map officially replaced Cobblestone in the active map pool on April 20, Dust2 has always been known for being a balanced map, and the new version appears to be slightly favouring the T side more often.
This can potentially be attributed to the widening of the tunnel leading into the B bombsite, ensuring easier access for the attacking team than on previous instalments.
Finding a way to make the A bomb site exciting but also balanced was perhaps one of the hardest issues for Valve to overcome.
Although the map can be quite CT sided, it also is one of the most diverse maps in the pool. The T and CT side both have a lot of different ways to play the map, with an incredibly large number of different strategies being viable.
The defending side can play defensive or aggressive on both bomb sites. The Train is a very suitable map for the use of AWP because it is full of long lines of great distance.
Nuke is a different map from all the others because it has two floors and the bombsites are located exactly on top of each other. For this reason, it is the most difficult map to understand when watching matches.
The map is one of the smallest in the game as well as being very closed. Thus, the use of pistols and shotguns is more feasible than on other maps, in addition to encouraging more forced purchases.
In terms of map control, CTs need to defend A from within the bombsite. OB allows more space and the defense takes place on the Ramp and in all the corridors between the Secret and the bombsite B.
The rotation between the two bombsites takes place through the Duct, so players can automatically descend from A to B in a few seconds.
The biggest competitive map in the game. Combat on the Overpass is different and takes longer than the other maps as the duels can take place, literally, in any region of the map.
This is because the Overpass is the most suitable map for CTs to be aggressive and advance the line of defense as much as possible.
As the bombsites are very close, the rotation of the defense is very fast, which makes the map more favorable for the CT. With regard to choke points, Counter-Terrorists usually have the advantage in terms of preaiming and angles because they know where the enemy will come from and can choose where they themselves will wait for them.
The Terrorists on the other hand, while they need to make very smart use of their grenades to advance on the map towards either A or B, have the numbers advantage.
When it comes to CS:GO competitive maps, structure refers to their overall aspect. Some maps have such an annoying structure that some professional teams avoid them altogether and simply ban them each time.
These maps have structural peculiarities that make it difficult for either the T or CT side to find a solution to the problems they face during each round.
People know where they need to go to reach A or B and how they can get from any point on the map to any other. However, keep in mind that structure is only the most trivial aspect of a map.
A serious player will never stop there and will continue to deepen his understanding of each map by mastering all of its elements. This map is slightly CT favored.
This imbalance shows up in the stats: The tiny vent entrance to B is about as unconventional as Cache gets. That leaves us with a pure competitive map—it couldn't be more obvious that Cache was co-designed by a pro player.
Blowing holes in the mundane, corporate setting remains a big part of the appeal. On the other hand, rotation from one bombsite to another is cumbersome and slow, especially from A to B.
Despite these issues, it remains a mainstay: the same asymmetry that makes it tough for the Ts gives it a unique feel: no other map stacks its bombsites atop one another, for example.
Do you even yoga, bro? This is actually a really nice gym. But it kind of looks like a school? Anyway, Workout is a colorful three-lane map with some interesting stuff happening around T spawn an awkward middle stairway; a pool area with plentiful hiding spots.
It can suck the fun out of the map if the hostages spawn closely together, too. Overpass' unusual layout is both its appeal and a tiny shortcoming, I think.
